Responsibility Transporting children is a shared responsibility between home and school. The district is responsible for children once they have boarded the bus. Families are responsible for the safety and supervision of their children to and from the designated stop.
Parents are asked to please check book bag straps to make sure they are secure. Check jackets for long drawstrings that could get caught in door handels.

A Signal for Safety: Motorists around school buses need to know the signals and the laws that concern school buses to help keep children safe.
- Do not pass a school bus that has RED alternating flashing lights on. This is a signal that the bus is stopped to load or unload children. Traffic should not move until the bus resumes motion.
- When a bus has alternating YELLOW flashing lights on, it is preparing to stop to load or unload children. Be ready to stop and watch for children in the roadway.
- School bus safety is a team efford. Nothing is more precious than a child's life.

What it takes to drive a school bus.....
A person doesn't become a bus driver by asking for a set of keys. To be certified as a bus driver, a person must meet the following qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Produce a safe driving abstract from the Ohio Motor Vehicle Department.
- Must be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check.
- Pass an alcohol and drug screening test.
- Pass a medical physical after steps 1-5 have been completed.
Once the above requirements have been met, a new driver must complete the following:
- Fifteen hours (minimum) of classroom instruction with 12 hours or more of actual bus driving with a bus instructor.
- A person must then pass a written test for a CDL (Commercial Driver's License)
- Upon completion of the CDL, the person would then need to take a road test with a state instructor followed by another road test by a third-party state instructor.
Upon completion of the necessary requirements, the person is then issued a bus driving certification.
When considering driving a bus, a person must enjoy working with children. Kindergarten through high school bus drivers have a very important job with the school system. First and foremost, the safety of the children is the most important concern. Bus drivers are the first and last person of the school day that the children see. Good drivers can tell when their passengers will have a good day or when things have gone bad during the day.
