Next year’s 7th grade students will be required to have a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine prior to the start of the 2010-2011 school year. This is a new requirement from the Ohio Department of Health. To assist parents in meeting this requirement, the Erie County Health Department will be coming to Margaretta Elementary on May 17th to administer this vaccine. For more information, please download the following forms: News Flash: The Erie County Health Department will be at Margaretta Elementary on Wednesday, January 27, for the second round of H1N1 Influenza administration. The clinic is for students who have not received an H1N1 vaccine yet or for students who are 9 years and younger who have not received the second dose of the vaccine. Please note the second dose must be given at least 28 days after the first dose. Your child must have a signed, completed consent the day of the clinic in order for the vaccine to be administered. If your child already received the first dose and is due for a second dose, a new consent is required. We will have shots as well as nasal mist available. Vaccines will begin at 9:00 AM. Consent forms will be sent home January 20. Please return them as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please call the school to speak with a nurse. Breakfast: Please be sure your child eats breakfast at home or take advantage of the breakfast the school provides. There are several children who come to the office first thing in the morning with complaints of headaches or stomach aches and report they have not eaten breakfast. Please help us by ensuring your child has been provided the opportunity for breakfast to start their day off right. Change of Clothing: Please provide a change of clothing including undergarments in your child's book bag. We have had numerous issues this year and we anticipate more as the weather changes and kids get wet outside. This will save a lot of time for everyone. We do have some extra clothes that we keep in the office but would appreciate it if you could help us to ensure your child has what they need. H1N1 Notice: Please be aware that we have numerous children that are absent with flu-like symptoms. When people are going to the doctor with flu-like symptoms, they are being told they have the flu and it is most probably H1N1 because that is what the majority of the cases are coming back as after testing. We understand and expect to hear this. Please keep your child home for as long as the doctor recommends, normally this has been a week but each case is handled on an individual basis. Please continue to practice good hand hygiene and cover your cough and sneezes. The health department is offering several opportunities to get the seasonal flu vaccine and I would expect something similar will be offered for the H1N1 vaccine as it becomes more readily available. Please consider taking advantage of these vaccinations for you and your family if you feel it is appropriate.
