Congratulations to the members of the Margaretta High School Concert Band on their performance at OMEA District II Adjudicated Event on Friday, March 5 at Oak Harbor Middle School. The band received Superior ratings from every adjudicator, resulting in a composite Superior (I) rating that qualifies the band for the State Adjudicated Event at Findlay High School on April 30th/May 1st. This marks the second consecutive year the band has qualified under the direction of Mr. Reardon. Please check the website for the band's state performance time, once it becomes available.

Congratulations to Michelle Schneider and Brandon Dority. Their projects won Regional Competition and are in the final judging for this year’s Governor’s Show of High School Art.

An AT&T Samsung cell phone was recently found. It is located in the HS Athletic Department office.

The Margaretta Citizens Committee is encouraging all residents of Margaretta Schools to register to vote. The deadline for voter registration is April 5, 30 days prior to the May 4 Primary Election. The Junior High weightlifting seminar has been moved to Monday, March 8th at 6:30 pm.

There will be a junior high track meeting for boys and girls on Monday, March 8 after school. Please see Mrs. Roan or Mrs. Miller with questions.

The annual Margaretta High School winter sports banquet will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Sandusky High School, beginning at 6:30 pm. This banquet will Honor the wrestling, basketball, swimming and diving and cheerleading squads at Margaretta High School. Tickets will be sold until Wednesday, March 10th in the Athletic Office during school hours. Banquet tickets are $12 per person. Make checks payable to the Margaretta Athletic Booster Club. TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD AFTER THURSDAY, MARCH 11th. IN ORDER TO ATTEND YOU MUST PURCHASE YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE. Athletes please contact either Mr. Roth or Mrs. Gardner in the AD office to receive your complimentary ticket.

Juniors & Seniors interested in taking an Advanced Placement test in Calculus, Spanish, English, History or French can stop by the Guidance Office to sign up for the test. The cost is $86.00 per test with a $13.00 fee if you sign up and do not take the test. Deadline to sign up is March 22nd.

Have you been shopping at the mall? If you have, save those receipts and bring them to school with you. We can submit them to earn school cash from the mall. We will have collection jars in the main office and the cafeteria. We will collect through December.

Guidance News

A rep from Owens CC will be here on March 9th. Please sign up in the guidance office to visit with either of these reps.

A rep. from Wilmington College will be here on Friday, March 12th during 7th period. If you are interested, stop by the Guidance Office and sign up.

A scholarship is offered to a graduating senior and resident of Sandusky County who will be pursuing a degree in higher education whose scholastic goals are directed towards working with mentally retarded, developmentally disabled, Special Education or a related field. Stop by the Guidance Office for more information.

Any students interested in attending a Summer Experience in Engineering at the University of Akron can stop by the Guidance Office for more information.

Ohio Business College is offering a $2500 scholarship. If interested, contact Jill for information at 888-627-8345.

Land Use Debate

The 8th grade team of Tyler Zavala, Emilie Anderson, and Mackenzie James received an honorable mention at the Erie County Land Use Debate!

On November 12th, the high school academic challenge team hosted their home match. The team has been working very hard this year and it paid off. Great job team!

SADD

SADD collected food for 3 families in our district they are sponsoring for Thanksgiving!

Handbook change with electronic devices and cell phones:
Revised : January 25, 2010.

Students at Margaretta Elementary are to leave cell phones and electronic devices (devices that contain batteries.) at home. In the event that a student chooses to bring an electronic device or cell phone to school and it is lost or stolen; the school WILL NOT be responsible. Any student caught with an electronic device or cell phone during school hours (7:30 am -3:00 pm) and any after school functions/activities at Margaretta Elementary, including field trips, will receive the following consequence.

First and Second Offence:
The cell phone or electronic device will be confiscated and the parent will be asked to pick it up at the end of the day. The student will serve an after school detention.

After the Second Offence:
Failure to follow reasonable direction of administration will result in the electronic device being confiscated, and the parent will be asked to pick it up at the end of the day. The students will serve an out of school suspension.

On March 6, 2010, the Sandusky City School’s Academic Booster Club is hosting its annual Chess Tournament for students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade. The Chess Tournament will be held in the Sandusky High School Cafeteria. Registration will begin at 8:30 am with the event starting at 9:00 am sharp. Registration fee will cost $1.00 per participant, and will be collected the morning of the event. Students from area schools are invited to attend. The tournament is a round robin style and all competitors will play within their own grade.

We are concerned with safety. This is the reason we’d like to reinforce the curb-side pick-up and drop-off only procedure immediately.  Click here for more information.
